"Sorry, no one goes by the name Dora the Explorer here. What you’ll find instead is a collection of toys, dolls, and games chosen solely for their capacity to inspire creativity. Proprietor Christina Clark fill the front of her store with easily accessible $5-and-under options—or, as Clark calls them, “restaurant toys.” For toddlers, there’s a selection of Haba blocks and shape-sorters and nearly an entire wall of Corolle dolls, along with all the essential gear (strollers, changes of clothing). A neighboring aisle is devoted to food-preparation play, with a cruise-ship galley’s worth of tea sets, fruit baskets, and play kitchens. Dress-up options and craft projects get most of Clark’s attention: “If you think about it,” she says, “costumes have the longest life of almost any toy you can find. A kid will play with a superhero cape or tutu from 2 to 10.” Or long enough to outlast any Dora obsession." - http://nymag.com/bestofny/kids/2009/indie-toys/

"The owners of this kid-friendly, big-top-sized shop are serious about one thing: Play is the work of childhood, and learning is the happy product. Since the early ‘90s, parents, teachers and savvy gift seekers have flocked to this independent toy emporium to find mind-engaging activities for curious tykes. Wide, stroller-friendly aisles lead to the back section, where the shelves are lined with starter chess sets, science kits, and board games. Snuggly infant suits and accessories occupy the middle of the store, but the only wardrobe items fit for bigger kids are career-themed costumes, including executive chef uniforms and NASA space suits. The front of the shop hosts bundles of invitingly soft plush puppets." — Molly Noonan - http://nymag.com/listings/stores/kidding_around/
